Quit Smoking

Smokers who are truly ready and motivated to quit will, of course, have the highest likelihood of a success. Level of motivation, available support, level of nicotine addiction, previous quit attempts, and personal preferences are all factors that need to be considered when developing your quit plan.

Programs that make false promises, cost a lot, or are not based in research are unlikely to be helpful. These programs are often profit-driven and blame the smoker for failing to quit, not the quality of the program. A failed quit attempt under these types of programs can be very discouraging.

The Smokers' Help Line (1-866-33AADAC) is a great place to seek help and advice about how you can quit smoking successfully. There is also a wealth of information and programming available online, including albertaquits.ca. You can also talk to someone at your local AADAC office about what programs and services are available in your community
