New youth addiction detoxification program opens in Grande Prairie

AADAC opened a four-bed youth residential detoxification and stabilization program in the Grande Prairie area on March 17. The facility is located in Clairmont.

The opening of this program builds on AADAC’s commitment to provide a continuum of services for Alberta’s youth and families. With this addition, AADAC now operates a total of 61 residential beds for youth throughout the province.

AADAC has opened a new youth residential detoxification and stabilization program in Grande Prairie, expanding the Commission’s existing range of services for young Albertans.

With this addition in Grande Prairie, which includes four beds, AADAC now operates a total of 61 residential detoxification beds for youth.

Barb Tarbox Awards of Excellence honour Albertans’ commitment to tobacco reduction

The sixth annual awards were presented to an individual, as well as a business and non-profit group that made a significant impact in the area of tobacco prevention, cessation, reduction or protection from second-hand smoke during the past year. In addition, a $2,500 youth scholarship and youth recognition award honoured Albertans under the age of 18 who made positive contributions to tobacco reduction in their community.

New youth addictions residential treatment centre opens in Lethbridge

AADAC has opened a new youth residential treatment centre in Lethbridge, expanding its range of services available for young Albertans. The centre adds eight residential detoxification beds for youth who require a specialized approach to substance abuse and gambling treatment.
PChAD legislation connects nearly 400 families to drug treatment services

The Protection of Children Abusing Drugs Act (PChAD), became law on July 1, 2006. Within the first year of a new Alberta law to protect children abusing drugs 395 families have used the legislation to access treatment services. 

New partnership strengthens efforts to eliminate drug and alcohol use in Alberta workplaces

The Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission has joined the Board of Directors of the Drug and Alcohol Council for Safe Alberta Workplaces (DACSAW) in an effort to eliminate the safety risks in Alberta workplaces associated with alcohol and drug use.

Harvey Cenaiko, MLA for Calgary- Buffalo and Chair of Alberta Alcohol & Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC), will gain insight into addictions issues and practices from countries across the globe at the International Council on Alcohol and Addictions (ICAA) Conference on Dependencies from June 10 - 15 in Stockholm, Sweden.
