Janet Skinner, CEO

Janet Skinner was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) on August 1, 2007.

Ms. Skinner has been with the Government of Alberta for 27 years. Prior to her appointment to AADAC, she was the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of the Program Services Division, Alberta Health and Wellness and as such, a member of the Department’s Executive Committee since 2001.

Key responsibilities during her tenure as ADM included developing collaborative relationships with health authorities, government jurisdictions and community stakeholders to facilitate service delivery and program information management. More specifically, she was responsible for the management of the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan, which included registry residents, practitioners and facilities for the administration of benefits under the public health system. In addition, her portfolio included the administration of the Emergency Health Services Ambulance programs, and she developed a process that improved decision-making related to public funding of health services and new technologies. Ms. Skinner chaired the Alberta Advisory Committee on Health Technologies, which provides guidance and advice to the operation of this decision process and recommends health technologies for provincial review.
