Addictions Prevention

As well as being designed to meet the goals and outcomes of Alberta teachers, this resource has been designed to follow best practices in prevention. It meets the following requirements for an effective prevention resource.

Good prevention programs:

  • are evidence based

  • base program on accurate information

  • are strength-based, comprehensive and of sufficient duration

  • are delivered at a time when it is relevant to students and addresses important life transitions

  • combine knowledge and skill development

  • use interactive group process

  • are designed to facilitate student analysis of social influence

  • provide training and support to teachers/facilitators
