The Talking Stick

The "Talking Stick" comes from the Aboriginal cultures and is a way of respecting and honouring all members of the group.

Have the group find "their" talking stick. It can be anything the team chooses. The group forms a circle.

The person talking holds the talking stick. Only the person with the stick is allowed to speak. Everyone else listens. Once the speaker is finished he/she passes the stick to the next person to talk. Or the person can place the stick in the middle of the circle. The next person ready to talk then picks up the stick. With this option, people talk when they're ready rather than in order around the circle.

It is important that the stick is shared.
