Quitting

Quitting smoking may not be easy. But it is worth it. As soon as you quit smoking you’ll start to feel better. And you’ll be taking a huge step toward being healthy for your entire life.

  • 20 minutes after quitting, your blood pressure will be back to normal.
  • Eight hours after quitting, the carbon monoxide levels in your blood be back to normal.
  • One day after quitting, your risk of having a heart attack decreases.
  • Three months after quitting, your lungs will be more efficient and your circulation will be improved.
  • One year after quitting, your risk of having a heart attack will be about half of what it would have been if you had kept smoking.
  • 10 years after quitting, your risk of dying from lung cancer will be about half of what it would have been if you had kept smoking.
  • 15 years after quitting, your risk of having a heart attack will be the same as that of a person who has never smoked.
